The free examinations in Kalamata are held under the auspices of the Municipality of Kalamata and the Medical Association of Messinia, in collaboration with the Department of Welfare – Section of Social Support of the Municipality of Kalamata, the Cancer Survivors Association of Kalamata “Xanarhi-ZO,” and the Diabetes Association of Messinia “Sweet Messinia.”

This initiative aims to strengthen prevention and early diagnosis of liver diseases among the elderly, who face a higher risk of developing chronic conditions, including certain forms of cancer. According to the World Health Organization, liver cancer is the 3rd leading cause of cancer death worldwide and the 6th most common cancer.

The aging of the population, combined with increasing risk factors such as sedentary lifestyles, poor diet, and obesity, poses a serious threat to public health. Obesity in middle and older age is rising rapidly, causing severe health consequences such as fatty liver disease and certain cancers.

The program “I Deserve to Know Plus II” aims to raise public awareness and strengthen the health of older adults, offering a valuable opportunity for free liver elastography screening. It is implemented with the generous support of the TIMA Charitable Foundation.
